Slated to open in June 2026, John F. Kennedy International Airport’s New Terminal One will follow in the modernization footsteps of nearby LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. Construction on the new terminal, containing 23 international gates and occupying 2.6 million ft.2, began in 2022.
Private investors and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have provided more than $19 billion in funds for the transformation of JFK, the centerpiece of which will be the New Terminal One. Much of this investment went toward “cutting-edge tech to ensure a 21st-century, world-class experience for our customers,” Hersh Parekh, deputy chief of intergovernmental affairs at the Port Authority, said at a media event in Bohemia, New York, in mid-October.
SITA and several of its collaborating partners, including Schneider Electric and ADB Safegate, hosted the event. They demonstrated multiple companies’ technologies, such as biometric scanning and machine-learning artificial intelligence, which will be used to create a “seamless passenger experience,” according to New Terminal One Chief Information Officer Serge Yonke Nguewo.
